 FAQs

  • This is a very common question! People often confuse doulas with midwives. Doulas don't catch babies or offer medical advice or care. We are non-clinical. We offer continuous physical, emotional and informational support during, and immediately after birth in addition to emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.

  • Research continuously shows that when doulas attend births labours are shorter, have fewer complications and feeding is easier. In other places birth doulas are provided as a free form of healthcare due to how well their services assist people. We attend births at the hospital, birth centre and home. Our goal is that you have an informed birth- there is no hidden agenda. No doula should judge you or make you feel bad about choices you make during pregnancy or birth.

  • Feeling confused about how one’s partner fits into the equation is common and normal. Sometimes partners worry that the doula will replace them or push them aside to a more passive supporting role. This should never be the case. We will often be the doula for partner as well, making sure they are fed, rested and well caffeinated. By the time of the birth, we will have a relationship with them too and understand their unique needs as well as concerns so we can support them appropriately. Many couples who have used a doula have felt that it took pressure off the partner as the primary birth partner.

  • No way! It is a widely held misconception that doulas only help or are useful for an unmedicated birth. We work with clients who are planning on getting pain relief but are looking for comfort measures until they have access to it. Planned caesarean births can also benefit from doula care.

    1. HypnoBirthing childbirth education course (if you choose it).

    2. Breastfeeding/infant feeding equipment (flange, bottle, nipple cream, etc.) if they are needed in a session. These charges are solely to cover the expenses of the product and we do not seek to make a profit off them.

    3. If choosing to pay by card (either debit or credit) the Square processing charge (typically ranges from .75%-3.5%)

  • Yes, we offer very flexible payment plans. However, payment is due in full by the beginning on the on-call period.

  • Some insurance companies cover doulas. You will need to refer to your specific insurance policy to confirm. Often, health spending accounts will allow you to use those funds for a doula. Again, please confirm with your specific policy.
